Eyeliner Guide
Types & Styles of Permanent Eyeliner
Permanent eyeliner ranges from an ultra-subtle lash enhancement that just looks like thicker lashes, all the way to a bold winged liner. Here's a breakdown of the most popular styles and how to choose the right one.
Lash Line Enhancement
The most natural option — pigment is deposited directly between the lashes, making them appear thicker and darker without any visible liner. Perfect if you want to look bright-eyed even without makeup.
- Best for: a "no-makeup" natural look
- Finish: invisible line, denser lash line
- Great starter option for eyeliner newcomers
Classic Thin Liner
A soft, defined line hugging the upper lash line — clearly visible but understated. Adds shape and structure to the eye without looking heavily made up.
- Best for: everyday polish
- Finish: subtle, defined line
Winged / Cat Eye Liner
A classic thin liner extended into a small, tailored wing at the outer corner — lifting the eye and adding a glamorous finish. Custom-designed to your eye shape so the wing suits your face.
- Best for: those who wear eyeliner daily
- Finish: elegant, lifted, glam
Smokey / Powder Liner
A softly diffused shadow effect above the lash line — like a beautifully blended pencil. Adds depth and warmth for a sultry, lived-in look.
- Best for: sultry, evening-ready eyes
- Finish: soft, smudged shadow
Bottom Liner
A very fine line on the lower lash line, often paired with an upper liner to balance the eye. Used sparingly — too much can close the eye visually.
Choosing the right style
- Eye shape. Wings suit almond and hooded eyes when placed correctly; classic and lash enhancement suit round eyes beautifully.
- Lifestyle. If you rarely wear makeup, start with lash enhancement. If you wear liner daily, a classic or winged style saves you time.
- Longevity. All permanent eyeliner styles last 1–3 years. Bolder, thicker styles tend to soften faster than fine lines.
