Lip Blush Guide

Lip Blush: What to Expect

Lip blush is a semi-permanent tattoo technique that softly tints your lips, enhances their natural shape, and creates the effect of a well-defined, hydrated pout — without lipstick. Here's what to expect from the process, healing and results.

What is lip blush?

Using a digital machine and fine needles, pigment is layered into the surface of the lips. Unlike traditional lip tattoos, lip blush is designed to look soft and natural — think of your best lip color, but always on. It can enhance shape, correct asymmetry, neutralize dark tones, and restore youthful color.

Great candidates

  • Pale or blurred lip lines
  • Uneven color or asymmetry
  • Lips that appear thinner with age
  • Anyone who loves the "your lips but better" look

Before your appointment

  • Take an antiviral if you have a history of cold sores (ask your doctor)
  • Exfoliate and heavily moisturize your lips for 3–5 days beforehand
  • Avoid alcohol, caffeine and blood thinners for 24–48 hours
  • Do not get lip fillers within 4 weeks before or after your session

During the appointment

Your visit is about 2–2.5 hours. We start with a consultation, shape mapping and color selection. Numbing is applied throughout to keep you comfortable. Most clients describe the sensation as mild vibration rather than pain.

Healing timeline

  • Days 1–3: Lips feel swollen, warm and appear very bold in color.
  • Days 4–7: Light flaking begins — do NOT pick. Color can look patchy or faded.
  • Weeks 2–4: The "ghost stage" — color looks lighter than expected as it settles.
  • Weeks 4–6: True color emerges. A touch-up is booked at 6–8 weeks.

Aftercare essentials

  • Keep lips clean and blot dry throughout day 1
  • Apply the provided healing balm sparingly, several times daily
  • No spicy, salty, acidic or hot foods for 5–7 days
  • Drink through a straw and avoid kissing/rubbing the lips
  • No swimming, saunas or direct sun for 2 weeks
  • Daily SPF long-term keeps color true

How long does lip blush last?

Lip blush typically lasts 2–3 years, with many clients returning for a color refresh annually. Sun exposure, skin exfoliation and skincare products directly affect how long pigment stays vibrant.
